By Doc Walton

If you have ever had a yeast infection, you know how uncomfortable they can be. The yeast can cause a variety of symptoms and can drastically effect your life. Your top priority is treating the yeast infection. It's important to know the signs and symptoms of a yeast infection so you know how you can treat it. Yeast infections are the most common in the vaginal area and also in the mouth. If it develops in the mouth, it is considered a Thrush Infection.

It's important to recognize the symptoms of a yeast infection so that you can start treatment immediately. It's also very important to know what is causing Candida symptoms of an infection so that you can avoid reinfecting yourself. The main causes include a poor diet but other factors can include an imbalanced digestive system, a weakened immunity system, toxins that have built up inside of the digestive tract, as well as a low probiotic bacteria count in your digestive tract. Make sure that you include more fresh vegetables in your diet and avoid refined carbohydrates and processed foods. Yeast thrive on the sugar that we consume, by starving the yeast of their food source, you can effectively control the yeast overgrowth causing the yeast infections.

Stress can play an important role in the start of a yeast infection. It can affect the body by elevating the blood sugar levels which will cause a yeast infection to multiply if you already have a yeast infection starting. If you have ever experienced a hormonal imbalance you know that it can cause several horrible symptoms including symptoms of yeast infection.

If you are taking certain medications, they may be playing a role in the development of a mild to moderate infection. Medicines that include steroids, antibiotics, and other prescription medications may be helpful for other conditions, but they can rob your body of the friendly bacteria that keeps the yeast in check leaving your body more susceptible to yeast infections.

Clothing, hygiene products, and too much moisture can also cause a yeast infection to develop. Your pH balance may be altered allowing the yeast to grow and multiply. Wearing a wet swim suit for long periods of time increase the chances for vaginal yeast to grow stronger. Sexual activity with a partner who has a yeast overgrowth is another way that infection can develop.

Symptoms can be categorized two ways; topical symptoms and systemic symptoms. The topical symptoms are more local symptoms, only involving the genital area and other areas of the skin, while the systemic symptoms are more globalized within the body.

The localized symptoms include burning, itching, as well as irritation, a white discharge with an odor, pain during sexual activity, redness and swelling, over sensitivity around the pubic hair follicles, painful urination, and cramping in the lower pelvic area.

A yeast infection can cause even more symptoms like bleeding and swelling of hemorrhoid veins, difficulty walking, feeling lethargy and fatigue, dryness and cracking of the vaginal area, pain during urination, swelling of the anus as well as discoloration.

Some vaginal discharge is normal but if you begin to notice a change in the discharge, like a foul color and odor, then you may want to seek treatment for a yeast infection.

Men can also develop yeast infections. Although it is not as common. For men, a yeast infection will cause such symptoms as burning during and after sexual intercourse, and there may be a rash or white lesions develop around the penis. This is often called Candida penis infection.
